BLUE MOUNTAIN – J.D. Parker, the new basketball coach at Blue Mountain College, landed his first two signees Tuesday: DeVante Parker, a 6-foot-4 forward from Houston, Miss., and Jarvis Fisher, a 6-0 guard from Pine Blue, Ark.
“Both these players are excellent athletes with well-rounded games,” Parker said. “Both come from excellent high school programs and they’ve got the type attitudes to fit in well at Blue Mountain.”
Pulliam averaged 14.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for Houston High School last year while earning 4A all-division and all-North Mississippi honors. A pre-pharmacy major, Pulliam also won the Hilltoppers rebound and basketball scholastic award in 2010.
“DeVante is a ‘long’ player – he’s got a great wingspan,” Parker said. “He’s a good inside scorer who plays very good defense and is a good rebounder. It tells you something about him as a person, though, that he takes greater pride in averaging five assists a game. He’s the type team player every coach wants.”
Fisher scored 15 points a game for Pine Bluff last season with four assists and two steals a game. A two-year letterman, he earned all-conference honors and was selected to the 6A all-state tournament team.
“Jarvis really shoots the ball well,” Parker said. “He’s an especially good defensive player who understands the game and is able to take charge on the floor. He’s a gym-rat – an extremely hard worker who continues to get better every day.”
