The MHSAA state track and field meet is scheduled for today and Saturday at Pearl High School.
Today’s meet features teams for classes 1A, 3A and 5A. Saturday’s meet is for classes 2A, 4A and 6A.
In today’s meet, Oxford pole vaulter Sam Kendricks will be looking to break the state record in all classes. He recorded a state’s best 17-foot vault in the North Mississippi meet, however, state records are only recognized at the state meet.
The state record is 16 feet held by former Clinton athlete Steven Greer.
Kendricks’ teammate, high jumper Justin Fondren, has been one of the nation’s best all season. He won the North meet with a record jump of 7 feet.
Oxford’s girls (5A), Corinth’s boys (3A), Myrtle’s girls (1A), and Pontotoc’s boys and girls (4A) are defending team state champions.
