Tulane takes Game 1 from Southern Miss

NEW ORLEANS – Brandon Boudreaux had five hits, including a pair of home runs, and drove in four runs to lead Tulane to a 9-5 Conference USA baseball victory over Southern Miss on Friday night.
The Golden Eagles (25-20 overall, 9-7 C-USA) left 13 runners stranded in the contest.
Tulane (30-16, 8-8) finished the night with three home runs as Boudreaux hit solo shots in both the first and sixth innings, while designated hitter Andrew Garner blasted a two-run shot – his second homer of the season – in the sixth. Boudreaux now has eight on the year.
After the Golden Eagles closed the gap to 7-5 in the seventh on a bases-clearing double by Isaac Rodriguez, Garner belted a two-run homer just over the leftfield foul pole in the bottom of the frame.
Andrew Reeves (2-1) allowed two runs, one earned, over 51⁄3 innings with three walks and a strikeout to get the victory, while Pierce fell to 6-3 after allowing four runs on nine hits over 31⁄3 innings.
Game 2 of the series is today at 2 p.m.
