Tupelo-Gaffney Legion World Series game pushed to Sunday

By NEMS Daily Journal

SHELBY, N.C. – The Tupelo Post 49 American Legion team looks to advance further in the winners’ bracket of the American Legion World Series as they play Gaffney, S.C., at 9 a.m. CST today at Keeter Stadium.
The game was originally scheduled to be played as the nightcap of the four-game second round on Saturday, but a long rain delay pushed the start of the evening session to 7 p.m. CST.
American Legion rules prohibit a game from starting after 11 p.m. local time.
A win for Tupelo (30-9) this morning advances them to the third-round late game (approx. 7 p.m. CST start) on Sunday against the winner of Saturday’s Midland, Mich.,-Brookfield, N.J. game. Midland led that game 8-4 in the eighth inning at deadline time.
If the Post 49 team loses, they would play Eden Prairie, Minn., in the 4 p.m. CST game on Sunday.
Tupelo won its opening game on Friday, a 6-3 decision over Las Vegas. WIll Cox was 3-for-4 with three RBI for Post 39 and pitched eight innings to get the win.
