Tupelo Golden Wave boys on track for fifth-straight title

Wilson Reeder shot a 1-under-par 70 Tuesday to lead Tupelo to an 8-stroke lead after 18 holes in the MHSAA Class 6A state golf tournament at Canebreak Country Club in Hattiesburg.
The Golden Wave heads into today’s final round looking to capture its fifth consecutive state championship.
Tupelo (287) leads Madison Central (295), Northwest Rankin (303), Oak Grove (304) and Hancock (310).
“I’m pleased with where we are, but we by no means have it in the bag,” THS golf Mark Enis said. “Our guys have the experience and we’re in good position.”
Also for the Wave, Hayden Buckley recorded an even-par 71, followed by Noah West and Austin Rose with 73s. Blake Harris shot a 75, but his score didn’t count.
“You can’t win on the first day, but we’ve put ourselves in a good spot,” Enis said.
Class 5A:Oxford (339) is five strokes behind Pearl River Central at Columbus Country Club.
Ward Toller shot a 78 to lead the Chargers in the first round.
