Tupelo High School standout Fletcher Johnson led the way for the three-man Mississippi team after two rounds at the USGA Men’s State Team Championships in Santa Rosa, Calif.
Johnson (73-71–144) was tied for 14th place in
the individual competition, five strokes behind
leader David Noll (74-65–139) of Georgia. A bogey on the final hole kept Johnson out of the
top 10 after two rounds.
Mississippi was tied for 20th at 10-over after two rounds, with Johnson joined by Ocean Springs’ Lane Pippen (75-76–151) and Ridgeland’s Scott Rhodes (74-83–157). Kansas and Georgia shared the lead at 3-under.
The tournament ends today.
