We’ll know a lot more about the plans for a new indoor pro football franchise in Tupelo by this time next week.
The Ultimate Indoor Football League will hold a press conference at BancorpSouth Arena on Monday afternoon.
New UIFL commissioner Jared Lorenzen – the former
Kentucky and pro football quarterback, who has a Super Bowl ring from his time with the New York Giants – will be in attendance.
The UIFL has a deal with the BCS Arena to play seven home games next season, starting in March, and the league has ambitious plans to add a Southern Division with teams in cities including Rome, Ga., Fort Myers, Fla., and Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Tupelo team has a coach – Martin Theus was named to the job in mid-August – but few other details have been made known at this point. It appears the UIFL itself may be the initial owner of the franchise, as it is in some other cities
