Tupelo makes official bid for 2013 state tourney

By NEMS Daily Journal

The Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau has presented a bid to the Mississippi High School Activities Association to host the 2013 Class 1A and 2A state basketball tournaments in Tupelo.
Seth Gaines, the CVB’s director of sports development, made the announcement on Monday at the monthly board meeting.
The MHSAA’s executive committee is expected to approve changes in the current state tournament format at its April 12 meeting. Part of the change calls for the 1A and 2A state tournaments to be moved from the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson for two years.
Tupelo’s bid is to host the boys and girls tournaments at the BancorpSouth Arena Feb. 27-March 2, 2013.
