By NEMS Daily Journal

If they can’t beat Bob Marlin, will Auburn instead decide to hire him?
In the search for a coach to replace the fired Jeff Lebo, Auburn has eceived permission to interview Marlin, the Tupelo native who guided Sam Houston State to the NCAA tournament this season. He’s had six 20-win seasons with the Bearkats, including this year’s 25-8 record.
Marlins team beat Auburn 107-89 on Dec. 20 – the Bearkats’ first victory against an SEC opponent. He’s 225-130 in 12 years at Sam Houston.
Auburn reportedly will also interview two other 2010 NCAA tourney coaches from Texas – Johnny Jones of North Texas and Tony Barbee of UTEP. The Tigers haven’t been to the NCAAs since 2003.
Lebo, meanwhile, was introduced Tuesday as the new head coach at East Carolina, which hasn’t had a winning record in 13 seasons.
