Tupelo’s Johnson tied for second at Trustmark

JACKSON – Tupelo amateur Fletcher Johnson recorded a 3-under-par 69 Friday and is tied with three other golfers after the opening round of the Mississippi PGA Trustmark Invitational.
Canton Country Club professional Olly Thomson is the first-round leader after firing a 5-under 67 at the Country Club of Jackson’s Dogwood course.
Johnson, a Mississippi State signee, is tied with Ole Miss golfer Billy Brozovich and club pros Leigh Brannan, Colonial CC, and Vincent Prejean, Annandale GC.
MSU golfer Chad Ramey, a Fulton native, is tied with four players in 12th place after recording an even-par 72. One of those players at 72 is Old Waverly pro V.J. Trolio.
Tupelo CC pro Jim Rose and Old Waverly pro Tim Yelverton are tied with 12 others for 18th after recording 2-over-par 74.
Okolona and MSU golfer Barrett Edens and Fulton amateur Ricky Riley shot 3-over 75.
The second round of the 54-hole stroke-play tournament is today.
