CORINTH – Tupelo’s Chris Stratton added some more hardware to his trophy collection on Saturday night at Jesse Bynum Field.
Already the NEMCABB Player of the Year for MHSAA Class 3A/4A/5A, Stratton struck out six East hitters in three innings to earn MVP honors for the West team in the Class 3A/4A/5A NEMCABB All-Star Game.
The West beat the East 10-5.
“The West team is pretty stacked,” said East MVP Stephen Otey of Amory. “We played hard, kept it kind of close. So, overall it’s respectable.”
Otey stole four bases on the night, but the East just could not keep up offensively with the West.
Nathan White of Pontotoc had three hits, including a home run, and Sawyer Wheatley of New Albany had two doubles to pace the West’s seven-hit attack.
White earned Offensive MVP honors for the West, while Lowell Gann of Alcorn Central picked up the same recognition for the East team.
Jordan Gurley (Corinth) was tabbed with Defensive MVP honors for the East and Weston Mounce (North Pontotoc) earned the same award for the West.
The Ralph Bruce Memorial Award for character shown in Saturday’s all-star game went to Tishomingo County catcher Blake Long of the East.
