Tupelo golfer Noah West recorded five birdies in the final nine-hole round Thursday to win the weather-shortened Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Classic in Springfield, Mo.
West, who will be a junior at Tupelo High, entered the final round of the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournament tied for fifth place. He posted a three-day, 45-hole score of 8-under-par 172 (72-69-31) to win by three strokes at Rivercut Golf Course.
“I played really well,” West said. “I’m really happy. Winning an AJGA event is big.”
West rolled in two birdie putts from the 40-foot range in the final round, which was shortened because of weather concerns.
“It’s crazy,” he said of his success putting. “You get fearless and become aggressive.”
West’s THS teammate, Fletcher Johnson, finished tied for ninth place with a 180 (74-71-35).
