Tupelo free safety Jarvis Wilson committed to Mississippi State on Tuesday.

The 2015 prospect is new to the position, as in he didn’t play any defense last season, but drew the SEC attention because of his 6-foot-1, 197-pound frame and physicality.

A slot receiver last season, Wilson rushed for 343 yards and six touchdowns and caught 30 passes for 359 yards.

“I think they see that big SEC-type kid back there on crack blocks and how he has a tendency to be physical,” Tupelo coach Trent Hammond said, “really physical at times.”
