UPDATE: Longtime Starkville sports editor dies

STARKVILLE — Don Foster, who was sports editor at the Starkville Daily News for 15 years and had a 40-year career at the paper and its sister publication in West Point, has died. He was 70.

Foster died at his home in West Point on Monday, according to family members. Funeral arrangements were incomplete Tuesday.

Foster joined the Daily Times Leader in West Point in 1968 on the production desk. He worked in many jobs at the two papers over the years. He was managing editor in Starkville from 1986 to 1990, in composition and sports from 1991 to 1992 and became sports editor in Starkville in 1992.

Foster had been sports editor emeritus at Starkville from May 2007 until his death.

Survivors include a son; a granddaughter; a brother and a sister.
