UPDATE: Mother nature throws Northeast baseball a curve in playoff series

BOONEVILLE – Mother Nature has thrown the Northeast baseball team a curveball.

Northeast was set to host the second day of the 2009 Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Baseball Playoffs on Saturday, May 2 but due to inclement weather in the Booneville area, those plans have been postponed.

Northeast (33-13) will wait and see what the weather holds as well as the outcome of the Itawamba Community College-Pearl River Community College series in Fulton on Saturday before making a call on when to resume its series.

According to Northeast baseball coach Kent Farris, weather permitting Northeast could resume hosting its best-of three series with Jones County Junior College on Sunday in Booneville or Fulton. Itawamba Community College has offered the use of Crabaugh Field to the Tigers if the Indians finish their series with the Wildcats on Saturday.

A wash in Fulton on Saturday would push Northeast’s series to a Monday date at Harold T. White Field in Booneville.

Game times are tentative depending on multiple scenarios.

Jones County took the opening game of the best-of-three series on Friday 10-1 at Harold T. White Field. Northeast, the North Division runner-up, needs to sweep Jones County in the two remaining games of the best-of-three series to advance to the 2009 MACJC State Tournament.
