HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss’ Todd McInnis has been named Conference USA’s pitcher of the year, making him the first Golden Eagles player to win a major conference award.
McInnis joined Bo Davis on the all-conference first team announced Tuesday. Shortstop Brian Dozier was named to the second team and Kameron Brunty earned a spot on the all-freshman team.
McInnis was 7-4 this season with a 2.78 earned-run average in 71-1/3 innings. He struck out 62 batters with only 21 walks and allowed just 22 runs.
The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles host the conference championship this week and begin play Wednesday night against fourth-seeded Tulane.
