JACKSON — Jameon Lewis ran for two scores and threw for three more as Tylertown overcame a 20-0 deficit to beat Aberdeen 34-20 for its first state title. The MHSAA Class 3A state championship was Saturday at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Lewis had 88 yards rushing on 27 carries and was 6 for 8 for 155 yards passing for the Chiefs (15-0).
His 75-yard touchdown pass to Ken Brown with 15 seconds left in the first half were the first of 34 unanswered points.
Aberdeen (13-3) scored 20 points in the first eight minutes, with 150 yards in the first quarter and 160 the rest of the game. They had nine penalties for 74 yards. Tylertown had none.
The victory capped Tylertown’s best season ever, including wins over Class 6A semifinalist Ocean Spring and Class 4A quarterfinalist Forrest County.
