STARKVILLE – A third member of Mississippi State’s 2009 baseball team has signed a professional baseball contract.
Jared Wesson, a senior left-handed pitcher from Tupelo, has signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers and reported to the Tigers’ training camp in Lakeland, Fla.
The former Tupelo High School and Itawamba Community College standout saw limited playing time at MSU in 2008 after redshirting in 2007. A 29th-round draft selection of the Florida Marlins in 2005, Wesson posted a 2-0 record with a save as a senior in 2009, notching wins over Valparaiso and Kentucky and a save in MSU’s series-opening win at Ole Miss.
A two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, Wesson joins senior outfielder Grant Hogue (Houston Astros) and junior pitcher Ricky Bowen (Cincinnati Reds) on the list of 2009 Bulldogs joining the ranks of professional baseball.
