HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss linebacker Korey Williams has been denied an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA.

At the same time, the school announced Monday that the NCAA granted a sixth-year of eligibility for senior offensive lineman Jason Weaver.

Weaver sat out the 2007 season at Arizona Western Community College before suffering a knee injury during the first game of the 2010 season. The injury forced Weaver to miss the remainder of the 2010 season.

Williams sat out his freshman season of 2007 at Southern Miss then missed 10 games this season after suffering a season-ending knee injury at Virginia. Williams recorded 273 tackles, including 34 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and four interceptions.
