HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss athletic director Richard Giannini says he is reviewing more than 30 applications for the school’s vacant softball coaching position.

Giannini says in a statement that he hopes to get a coach hired by the first week of August before players report.

Former Golden Eagle coach Howard Dobson announced he was leaving Southern Miss on June 28 to take an assistant coaching job at LSU.

In four years at Southern Miss, Dobson’s teams had a 93-128-2 overall record.
