Varnado has quiet debut in NBA summer league

LAS VEGAS – Former Mississippi State standout Jarvis Varnado logged 19 fairly productive minutes in his NBA Summer League debut with Miami on Sunday.
The 6-foot-9 Varnado, a second-round pick of the Heat, had six points, three rebounds and two blocked shots before fouling out in his team’s 77-72 victory over New Orleans. He was 2-for-2 from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line.
Varnado is one of three second-round picks vying for a roster spot, along with a handful of free agents.
Miami’s next game is 9:30 tonight against Golden State.
