The semi-pro Verona Black Sox are headed to the Tombigbee Waterway League World Series after Saturday’s 23-5 baseball victory over the Tupelo Tigers.
The Black Sox defeated the Tigers 10-8 the previous Sunday in the first game of the best-of-three North Division championship series.
Kennard Springer swung the biggest bat for the Black Sox, going 5 for 6 with two home runs.
He belted a grand slam along with a solo homer and added three singles.
Nate Coleman went 3 for 4 with a triple and Boyce Ivy – who had a grand slam in the first game – added a homer.
The victory moves the Black Sox into a best-of-three championbship series against Shannon.
The first game is Saturday at 4 p.m., with Game 2 on Sunday. If a third game is needed it’ll be played on Sept. 3.
