Tupelo senior quarterback Luke Hobson suffered a severe ankle injury in Friday’s 24-23 loss at Columbus and will be sidelined for an indefinite period of time, his coach said Sunday.
“The doctors will have to determine how long he’ll be out,” said Tupelo coach David Bradberry. “He could be out for awhile.”
Hobson was injured late in the game as the Golden Wave was driving for a possible game-winning field goal attempt.
Hobson’s backfield mate, tailback Ashton Shumpert, had just returned to the lineup against Columbus after missing four weeks with a stress fracture in his lower leg.
“Luke was playing well and his season was going to get even better with Ashton back,” Bradberry said.
Hobson’s backup, Thomas Harris, will take over for the Wave, which hosts Grenada Friday.
