BLUE MOUNTAIN – Allie Newby made a little Blue Mountain College history Thursday when the West Union High School three-sport standout signed a scholarship to become the school’s first woman intercollegiate golfer.
Newby, who also lettered four years in cross country and six years in basketball, lettered in golf four years for the Eagles. An all-Division 1A selection three years, Newby competed in the Mississippi girls state championship all four years at West Union and was the Lady Eagles’ most valuable player her junior and senior seasons.
In cross country, she was an all division and all-state runner four years and a member of the West Union 1A state championship team in 2010-11. In basketball, Newby was named the Lady Eagles best offensive player her senior season after scoring 296 points.
