Youth Baseball

– There were more than two dozen USSSA state champion-ship tournaments held across the state this weekend, with competition for eight of those state titles held in Tupelo and New Albany.
Here’s a quick look at champion-ship results that were reported:

At New Albany
n There were 46 teams in four classes at the Sportsplex, with the 9-under titles decided on Sunday:
14 AAA: Mississippi Hurricanes (Eupora) beat the Chesterville Badgers 7-2. The Badgers (37-13-5), coached by Buddy Dickerson, will advance to the USSSA World Series starting next Sunday in Southaven.
14 AA: The Drillers (Laurel) beat the Mississippi Hurricanes (Batesville) 14-5.
9 U: Mississippi Seminoles (North Miss.) beat Hammers (Columbus) 8-1.
9 AA: Mississippi PSA Sox (Byram) beat Sliders (Saltillo) 33-7

At Canton
13 Major: Knights (Hernando) beat Muddawgs (Columbus) 11-9
13 AAA: Central (Southaven) beat North Mississippi Warriors (Blue Springs) 11-2
13 AA: The Chesterville Longhorns, coached by Nikki White, beat the North Mississippi Longhorns (Senatobia) 18-6.

At Tupelo
n There were 54 teams in action in four classes at Ballard Park, with all finals on Sunday afternoon.
12 Major: Mississippi Royals (Southaven) beat the Mississippi Lumberjacks (Brandon) 6-1.
12 AAA: The Mississippi Mustangs (Southaven) beat the Diamond Dogs (Madison) 9-8.
12 AA: The Young Gunz (McComb) beat the North Mississippi Razors (Walls) 9-6.
12 A: The Vicksburg Red Sox beat the Madison Majors 8-0.

At Canton
11 Major: The Desoto Cardinals beat the MS Heat (Madison) 14-10.
11 AAA: Elite (Central Miss) beat Woodland Sliders 7-5
11 AA: The Stealers (Starkville), coached by Aaron Conner, beat the North Mississippi Redbirds (Pontotoc) 12-6.

At Madison
10 AAA: The NWR Skeeter (Brandon) beat the Tupelo Rangers 7-6.
10 AA: The Advantage A’s (Corinth), coached Kim Wilcher,
defeated the Amory Heat 13-10 and 17-5 to come out of the losers’ bracket on Sunday afternoon to win. The A’s lost their second tourney game, then battled back through a total of 11 games.

At Brandon
12 All Star: Louisville All Stars beat Clinton 15-0.
11 All Star: The North Jackson Titans beat the Pearl All Stars 7-4.
10 All Star: The NWR Cougars (Brandon) beat the Madison Braves 18-4.
9 All Star: The Pearl All-Stars beat the Jackson Bandits 11-3.
8 coach pitch AA: The Predators (New Albany), coached by Mike Willard, beat PSA Sox-Blue (Flowood) 9-7 in Sunday’s championship game.
8U coach pitch: The PSA White Sox-Red (Madison) beat the Mississippi Buzz (Ecru) 6-5.
7 coach pitch AA: The Madison Mavericks beat the Vicksburg Billies 11-3.
