RHS Event Center nearing completion

RIPLEY–The Ripley High School Event Center is steadily rolling to completion. The approximately $4.6 million structure is taking shape in anticipation of Ripley High School’s graduation ceremony in late May. The graduation is set to be the first event inside the 26,500 sq. ft. facility. The project began with a groundbreaking ceremony in December 2007. The building’s foundation was laid in June of 2008. According to Project Superintendent Sam Harber, amp”The building’s completion is on a tight schedule, but everything has gone smoothly to this point. We haven’t had any problems and everybody is doing their very best to make this happen.amp” Harber said that the heaters and the scoreboard were recently installed. The $25,000 scoreboard, purchased by The Peoples Bank, is four-sided and rests at the top-center of the building. Painting began on Monday and the ceiling, along with the basketball goals are planned to be installed by the end of the week. Harber added that the 84-foot standard length basketball court would be installed during the week of April 15, with the installation of fixed chair-back seating to follow during the week of April 23. Harber also noted one feature that is sure to get rave reviews when the door opens–the spacious bathrooms. The women’s bathroom will have 16 toilets, while the men’s bathroom will have three toilets and nine urinals. According to South Tippah Superintendent Frank Campbell, the Event Center will feature seating for approximately 1,615 people in the chair-back bleachers and approximately 500 folding chairs can also be placed on the gymnasium floor for additional seating. amp”We are excited about the progress, and looking forward to bringing it to completion, amp” said Campbell, amp”We knew it would be nice, but it’s turning out to be better than expected. Actually seeing it come together is pretty awesome.amp”
