PAULINE BAILS Pauline Prather Bails, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a retired certified nurse assistant. She was a member of Ripley Second Baptist Church in Ripley. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at Ripley Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Paine officiating. Burial was in Ruckersville Cemetery at Falkner. McBride Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include one daughter, Violet Bails of Ripley; four sisters-in-law, Hattie Cox, Dorothy Bails and Grace Bails, all of Ripley and Ethel Prather of Jackson; and one brother-in-law, Gilroy Bails Sr. of Ripley. Her husband, Henry D. Bails; her parents, Howard and Violet Edgeston Prather; a sister, Hattie Peterson; and four brothers, Roy D. Prather, Flynn Prather, O. C. THELMA ESTES Thelma Simmons Estes, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother of seven, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church. She was active in the community until her health failed. Her many experiences while growing up on her family’s farm provided countless memories, which she loved to share. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bro. Don Wilson officiating. Burial was in Little Hope Cemetery in Falkner. Survivors include two daughters, Carole Pegram (Lee Allen) of Ripley and Kitty Meadows (Ed) of Pensacola, Fla.; three sons, Robert B. Estes Jr. (Vickie) of Homestead, Fla., John K. Estes (Paula) and Joe H. Estes (Kim), both of Ripley; two brothers, Billy Simmons of Ripley and Pete Simmons of Jonesboro, Ark.; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Estes Sr.; her parents, Bryan Ellis and Falba Moss Simmons; one daughter, Kay Gravette; one son, Marshall Estes; one grandson, Eric Pegram; one sister, Lydia Simmons; and three brothers, James Simmons, Bob Simmons and Kenny Simmons. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Tim Estes, Robert Estes III, Lee Pegram Jr., Paul Gravette, Joe Estes Jr., Daniel Meadows, Andrew Meadows, Allan Estes, Bryan Estes, John Estes Jr., Frank Estes, and James Estes. PHYLLIS MARIE WELCH Phyllis Marie Welch, 54, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 at her residence in Ripley. She was born May 25, 1954 to the late Ernest and Annie Marie Henson Groves. She was a former activity assistant at Rest Haven Nursing Home and was a Baptist. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Trey South officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery, Tippah County. Survivors include two sons, Jason Ginn (Janice), of Ripley, Joshua Ginn (Janice), of Guntown; one step-daughter, Michelle Merritt (Roger), Sheridan, Ark.; three brothers, Terry Groves (Rachel), of Ripley, Dwight Groves (Debby), of Anniston, Ala., and Larry Groves (Diane), of Helena, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ginn of Rienzi, Jewell Ginn and James Ginn both of Ripley, Logan Ginn of Guntown, Brandon Ginn, Cameron Brownlee, Dalton Ginn and Wesley Ginn all of Arkansas. She was born Dec. 20, 1925 to the late William and Theenie Pannell Gross. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was retired from Genesco Manufacturing. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Trey South officiating. Burial was in Tippah Memorial Garden. Survivors include one daughter, Jean Pannell (Danny) of Ecru; one son, Gerry Smith of Blue Mountain; one step-daughter, Anita Chumley (Bob) of Ripley; one step-son, Robert Thornton (Kathy) of Booneville; one sister, Juanita Watson of Pittsfield, Maine; one brother, Buddy Gross of Dumas; eight grandchildren, Josh Smith of Jackson, Tenn., Mitch Smith (Kim) of Tupelo, Meghann Edwards (Drew) of Southaven, Kayla Thrasher (Millard) of Corinth, Jennifer Hamilton (Jason) of Laramie, Wyo., Scott Pannell, Josh Pannell and Chase Pannell, all of Ecru; and four great-grandchildren.
