Accident claims the life of two Tippah County youths

MICHIGAN CITY — A two vehicle wreck on U.S. 72 in Benton County late afternoon Thursday March 12, claimed the life of two Falkner High School students, according to Benton County Coroner Bob Riles. Riles said Chad Duncan 17, of 80 CR 269 in Falkner, and Harley Fowler 15, whose address is unknown at this time, were in a Jeep Cherokee that pulled from a store parking lot into the path of a westbound 2004 International 18-wheeler at the intersection of Miss. 5. According to Coroner Bob Riles, both students were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was Cecil Rhodes 69, of Florence, Ala. and was not believed to have been seriously hurt according to Horace Kitchens with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The wreck was reported via 911 at approximately 5:30 p.m. and responding agencies included the Benton County Sheriffs Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, North Benton First Responders, and the Med Stat Ambulance Service of Ashland. Falkner High School officials declined to comment on the situation.
