Three RHS powerlifters advance to state meet

RIPLEY — Three members of the Ripley High School power-lifting team will represent the school at the state powerlifting meet in Jackson April 4. Seniors Jaquise Cook (181 lbs.) and Michael McBryde (181 lbs.) along with junior Deonta Cook (132 lbs.) qualified for the meet by being among the top three finishers in their respective weight classes during the North Half Meet. The three were part of seven team members that participated in the March 7th meet in Lewisburg. The team qualified with a second place finish in district competition. Other members included Alex Jones (123 lbs.), Ryan Richardson (198 lbs.), Jalen Wilson (242 lbs.), and Jonathan Carter (275 lbs.). During the competition, Jaquise Cook set a new record for squat with 520 lbs., and McBryde tied the record for dead lift at 540 lbs. Coached by Stan Robertson, the RHS power-lifting team is in its second season after a six-year absence from the sport.
