Cox takes third at state track meet

PEARL — Lanesha Cox capped her impressive track season with a medal-winning performance at the MHSAA state track meet Friday. Cox placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.35. According to Ripley track coach Phillip Laney, Cox is the first Lady Tiger track member to place at the state meet in the four years he’s been at the school. Cox finished her day with a seventh place finish in the 800-meter run before running the first leg of the 4×400-meter relay. Joining Cox on the relay team were Geordi Talley, Rachel Walker, and Tierra Graham. The team finished in eighth place. Page Rowland competed in the 3,200 meter run, placing fifth with a time of 13:10.72 and lone boys’ track team member Justin Terry earned a 5th place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.25. “They performed well,” said Laney. “It was their first experience at that level and I had freshman and sophomores running against seniors. I think now they realize that they have to come to run.”
