Northeast cheerleaders summer camp a success

BOONEVILLE – Northeast Mississippi Community College cheerleading squad traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) cheer camp that was held from July 24-26th on the campus of the University of Alabama. Head Coach Jennifer Johnson reported that at least 900 cheerleaders participated at the camp which made this the largest camp ever to be hosted by the Crimson Tide. The Northeast squad had a great showing by winning second place in the fight song competition and finishing in fifth place in the cheer competition. Johnson’s group landed seven blue superior ribbons and one red excellent ribbon during evaluations. In a separate event held for the male cheerleaders referred to as the “Olympics”, Kody Jackson was awarded 10th place in the push-up competition completing 70 push-ups in 60 seconds. “I am so proud of our team,” said Johnson. “We had a lot of fun and everyone did a great job representing Northeast while at camp.” Johnson’s squad of 14 cheerleaders consists of seven male and seven female student-athletes who will now start preparing for the football season opener against Hinds Community College on August 27th at Keenum Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
