Good morning, readers, and thanks for stopping by. As we ponder how grossly overrated Starbucks coffee is, let’s take a quick look at the top headlines from today’s Daily Journal.
• Senate advances law enforcement pay raise – Sheriffs are in line to get a pay boost, and also moving through was legislation that honors the two Tupelo police officers involved in the Dec. 23 shootout. Bobby Harrison has a good breakdown of the pay raises.
• Bulldogs seek fresh start tonight – MSU has lost 13 in a row and will try to snap that streak against Vanderbilt in the opening round of the SEC Tournament. Good for the Bulldogs if they do, but I’m thinking they need to get the wounded horse treatment.
• Lady Indians one win away from 4A title – Itawamba AHS beat Raymond last night in the MHSAA State Basketball Tournament. For the first time since 1952, a girls team from Fulton will play for a state championship. Should they wear long skirts to honor the occasion? No? OK.
• BBQ Duel brings well-known teams to Tupelo – The fourth annual Don’t Be Cruel BBQ Duel is set for this weekend, so go stuff your faces ’cause it’s FREE ADMISSION. And I hate it for you if you gave up barbecue for Lent, because what were you thinking?
