Now, as we ponder the jealousy other planets must have over Earth getting its own globally recognized day, let’s review the top stories from today’s Journal.
• Shelton has ideas – Mayor Jason Shelton presented some ideas from his city revitalization plan Monday night. Shelton admitted he’s not completely sold on all of his ideas, but hey I’ve got a slogan for him: “Fight blight!” It rhymes, see.
• Take this quick survey – You, yes YOU, dear citizen, can have a voice in Tupelo’s Major Thoroughfare Program. Just take a quick survey (it’s not actually that quick; took me 11 minutes, 38 seconds) to give your input on what should be done to help Tupelo’s streets and transportation infrastructure. One of my comments was, “Have you ever heard of right-turn signals,” because I don’t think Tupelo has.
• Safety first – Gov. Phil Bryant signed some bills Monday that are designed to improve safety. It includes training 60 new state troopers. You know what I miss? State troopers who wear those mirrored sunglasses. Bring those back.
• Guv’s Cup – Ole Miss and MSU meet tonight in Pearl for the annual Governor’s Cup game, which does not count in the SEC standings but gives the message boarders something to yak about on a Tuesday.
