Republican Rep. Kevin McGee of Brandon resigned Monday, effective immediately. He did not immediately return a telephone call for comment.
Gov. Phil Bryant will set a special election to fill the seat in District 59, which is entirely in Rankin County.
The state Ethics Commission ordered McGee in February to repay the state $346,554 from public printing contracts that went to his family business. He no longer works there, but state ethics laws say public servants may not have financial interests in companies with government contracts.
As part of Monday's settlement McGee agreed to drop his appeal.
