Elementary students present ‘Yes, Virginia: The Musical’

A $1,000 grant from Macy’s provided Saltillo Elementary with the opportunity to present the musical “Yes, Virginia” this weekend.

The production tells the true story of an 8-year-old girl, Virginia, who wrote to a newspaper to ask if Santa is real.

The fourth grade class’ show is at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and the fifth grade class’ show is at 2 p.m. Saturday. The third graders will perform “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at both performances.

Each show is free and will take place at the Saltillo Elementary School Auditorium.

Okolona native Milstead to give

opera concert Tuesday evening


Okolona native Ryan Milstead and Courtney McKeown will present an opera concert at the Faith Outreach Church in Okolona at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The program includes opera as well as Christmas tunes.

Milstead is currently performing in his second season at the Florida Grand Opera Young Artist Program.

It’s a free show, and a love offering will be taken.

Wagon rides, light displays, more at Pumpkin Patch Christmas

Pumpkin Patch Farms in Blue Mountain is decorated and ready for Christmas.

Visitors can take a peek in Santa’s workshop, take a wagon ride to check out light displays, roast marshmallows around a bonfire or buy homemade kettle corn caramel apples in Daisy Mae’s Bakery and Country Store.

Pumpkin Patch Farms is located at 2390 County Road 805 in Blue Mountain, and hours are 6-10 p.m. every day through Christmas, except Christmas Eve.

Admission is $8, and horse-drawn wagon rides on Saturday nights are $2 extra.
