White had 17 points in the Rebels’ 63-61 win at Auburn Saturday and followed that up with another season-high, leading Ole Miss with 22 points in its first SEC loss of the season.
White was 9-for-16 from the floor, 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
Buckner on the boards
As Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy has mentioned, more than once, Murphy Holloway as a player of the year candidate, the work Reggie Buckner has done on the boards in SEC play has been overshadowed.
Buckner went into Tuesday game leading the SEC in conference play with 9.7 rebounds a game, slightly ahead of Kentucky freshman Nerlens Noel, who was averaging 9.5 boards against the league and not much farther ahead of Holloway – and Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes – who were both averaging 9.3 in league play.
Head to head to head Tuesday night, Buckner had nine rebounds, Holloway eight and Noel seven.
Player of the game
Noel set a school record with 12 blocked shots.
The Rebels are on the road at No. 4 Florida for a 6 p.m., tip Saturday night. The Gators are at home tonight against South Carolina.
“He’s 17-2. Would you please build the guy a new building? That locker room we’re in, I’m like looking for squirrels.” – Kentucky coach John Calipari.
