Freshman right-hander Brady Bramlett allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked none in five innings Wednesday in his first start for No. 8 Ole Miss, a 7-2 win over visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Catcher Stuart Turner hit a two-run home run in the third inning, his second long ball of the season.

Austin Anderson had an RBI triple in the third and Auston Bousfiled followed with a run-scoring single before Turner’s homer put Ole Miss up 4-0.

Jake Overbey’s ground ball to short in the sixth inning scored Andrew Mistone to put the Rebles up 5-0.

Ole Miss added to the lead with a run in the sixth when Andrew Mistone scored on a ground ball to short from Jake Overbey that gave the Rebels a 5-0 lead.

The Rebels added two more runs in the seventh when Austin Knight hit an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch.

Bramlett’s seven strikeouts came a week after he fanned all three batters he faced against UT-Martin.

Ole Miss plays its first road game at Florida International at 5 p.m. Friday.

Mississippi State 17, Rhode Island 5: The Bulldogs turned a 4-3 game in the fifth inning into a rout by scoring 13 runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to remain undefeated.

Adam Frazier and Alex Deta each went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and Sam Frost drove in four runs for the Bulldogs.

None of Mississippi State’s four runs in the fifth inning came on a hit. The Rams’ Lou Distasio walked Frost with the bases loaded, and Nick Naradowi hit two batters and walked another with the bases loaded to put the Bulldogs up 8-3.

Mississippi State’s first seven batters reached base in the 7-run seventh before the Rams recorded an out.

Ross Mitchell struck out two in 11⁄3 innings of relief for the win.
