The Lady Warriors defeated Bay 58-41 last season on their way to the state championship. ... Pontotoc has eight starters back from that title team, but not Journal Player of the Year Quinn Ford. ... The Lady Warriors, who beat Raymond 55-42 in the state semifinals, bring a 20-game win streak into today’s battle for the gold ball. ... Bay has two preseason all-state players in Christa Reed and Breta Hart. Reed scored 28 points in team’s 74-31 semifinals win against North Pontotoc.

Booneville is in its third straight Class 3A state championship game, winning it all two years ago. ... The Blue Devils have eight seniors, two in Kenny Paul Geno and Jordan Miller who played significant minutes in both previous title contests. ... Jack Nichols is a PG converted from power forward and has emerged as a key finisher. ...Velma Jackson beat Booneville 42-40 in the North championship game. ...Geno is one of the state most sought after recruits and arguably the state’s best dunker.

THE BUZZ

For Booneville to win its second state title in three years, the Blue Devils will either have to force Velma to play fast or beat the Falcons at their own slow pace. Velma slowed down a 42-40 North championship win.

Elzy has two future DI players, Maurice Dunlap (Mississippi State) and Rahkeem Lehaman (Middle Tennessee). ...Corinth has been a Big House staple, in the title game for the third straight season. ...The Warriors are looking for their sixth state championship in itheir 16th state tournament appearance.

THE BUZZ

Elzy has used its size in two straight wins over the Warriors. For Corinth to win its sixth gold ball, it needs to find some kind of success underneath the basket.
