Michael Hodges, 35, was shot one time in the chest with a 9 mm pistol. He was airlifted to Tupelo for treatment, but was able to give a statement to authorities Friday afternoon at the Tippah County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said the shooting followed a confrontation between Hodges and Jerrod Quinn Leatherwood, 21, of the Pine Grove area, about 11 p.m. on County Road 200. Only one round was fired, and Hodges did not display a weapon, investigators were told.
Leatherwood was being held for questioning, but no charges had been filed as of mid-afternoon Friday, according to the Tippah County Jail docket.
County Investigator Josh Bateman said Leatherwood would be arraigned Monday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and cyberstalking.
