In October, Race for the Cure raised $150,000. A quarter of the proceeds will go to help fund Komen for the Cure’s national breast cancer research program. The remaining 75 percent remains in 15 north Mississippi counties to fund breast cancer screening and breast health programs.
Attendance and sponsorship was down slightly, but participants really stepped up their individual efforts, said race coordinator Cindy Hale.
“Our (participant) fundraising was way up,” Hale said.
On Friday, the affiliate is hosting a grant workshop to aid nonprofit organizations who would like to apply for funds with the transition to online grant applications and reporting.
“It will be a quicker, easier process,” Hale said. The grant applications are all reviewed and graded by an affiliate review panel.
Grants will be due by 4 p.m. Feb. 1.
The affiliate is still taking donations.
“It’s not too late to give,” Hale said.
