Former Northeast Mississippi Community College quarterback Raymond Monica has been named head football coach at Division II Arkansas Tech.

Monica, a two-time All-State quarterback for the Tigers (1986-87), has spent the past seven seasons as head coach at D-II Kutztown (Pa.). He succeeds Steve Mullins, who remains as athletic director after 16 seasons as coach of the Wonder Boys.

Monica, from Garyville, La., went 45-34 at Kutztown, with NCAA playoff trips in 2010 and 2011.

After playing at Northeast, Monica went to North Alabama, then joined Bobby Wallace’s UNA staff. The Lions won three national championships

in 1993-95. He was Wallace’s defensive coordinator at Temple for eight seasons (1997-2005).
