Celebrate Elvis’ birthday with cake, choir performance
Elvis Presley would’ve been 78 on Tuesday, so Tupelo is celebrating.
The party begins with birthday cake at the Elvis Presley birthplace at 1:30 p.m., followed by the premiere of the Tupelo Unity Choir video in the birthplace theater at 2 p.m. The choir will perform at 2:15 p.m.
That evening, there will be a lighting ceremony at the Elvis Homecoming Statue in Fairpark at 5:30 p.m.

Dulcimers return for more music in 2013 at Natchez Trace
The first performance by the North Mississippi Dulcimer Association in 2013 is set for Jan. 5 at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitors Center in Tupelo.
The association members will show off their skills playing bluegrass, gospel and old-time music, and will show the audience how to play the instrument.
The performance is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 5.

Tupelo artist hopes to raise money for feature film
Glenn Payne is out to create his most ambitious film yet, the psychological sci-fi thriller “Earthrise,” but he needs your help to do it.
He’s asking for donations via the website IndieGoGo.com. Fans can contribute to the project and win incentives, like a DVD of the finished product, signed poster, executive producer credit and more.

Hawthorne Heights member offers Good Time Charlie show
J.T. Woodruff of Hawthorne Heights is performing a solo gig in Tupelo on Saturday.
He’ll be joined by Mark Rose, Light Beam Rider, Dear Life, Rowan Oak, Roses Unread and 5-Eyes.
The show is at 7 p.m. Saturday at Good Time Charlie’s.
