Jason Jones, the cornerbacks coach at Oklahoma State and a six-year member of that staff, will join Freeze’s staff.
The move was reported Tuesday by Jimmie Tramel of the Tulsa World.
McGriff coached cornerbacks at Ole Miss while Dave Wommack coached safeties. They shared the defensive coordinator title.
With the Cowboys, Jones coached three different cornerbacks to first-team All-Big 12 status, most recently Brodrick Brown in 2011.
Two Jones pupils – Brown and Perrish Cox – were semifinalists for the Thorpe Award.
Jones gained SEC experience as a graduate assistant at Alabama in 2004.
As a full-time assistant he’s coached cornerbacks at each stop including the 2006 season at Rice between two one-season stops at Tulsa, the latter holding the title of special teams coordinator.
He joined the Oklahoma State staff in 2008.
