Bond set for Amory man accused of sexual battery of mentally challenged woman

TUPELO – An Amory man had his bond set at $150,000 in Lee County Justice Court Friday on a sexual battery charge.

Larry Wayne Cowley, 39, remains in the Lee County Jail. Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said Cowley, a registered sex offender, is accused of having sex with a mentally challenged woman sometime around October 20 in Lee County.

Johnson said Cowley was a friend of the victim’s family and had contact with the her on a regular basis.

Cowley may also face charges of failing to register as a sex offender.

The case will be presented to the March 2, 2011 grand jury.
