ABERDEEN – Virginia Parker Jaynes, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Baird in Sunflower County to Samuel Tobias Parker and Nora Miller Parker. She had resided in Aberdeen for the past 57 years. She was a homemaker and secretary for Continental Engineering. She was a member of Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother of: Sam Jaynes Sr. of Aberdeen, Sue Ellen Green of Pontotoc, Rebecca Lynn Nasif and husband, Douglas, of Port Gibson, Sam Jaynes Jr. and wife, Valerie, of Amory, Thomas E. Green, Gabriel A. Nasif, Nathan P. Nasif, Ryan P. Nasif and Matthew C. Jaynes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son; and one grandchild, Robin E. Nasif.

HICKORY FLAT - Gary Dan Pope, 55, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. He was born April 8, 1955, in Alabama to L.E. Pope and Lula Virginia Taylor. He was a truck driver for Massengill until becoming disabled.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in New Albany. Bro. Jason Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Pisquagh Cemetery at Hickory Flat.
Survivors include his father, L.E. Pope of Hickory Flat; his siblings, Mike (Corrine) Pope of Blue Mountain, James Pope, Brenda Gail (Bobby) Knighton and Sandra (Tim) Holmes, all of Hickory Flat, Mary Jane Shoffner of Victoria and Shirley Hayes of Oxford; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, William Thomas Pope.

SALTILLO - Maralyn Kay Parks, 65 died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born in Marion, Ohio, on Dec. 2, 1944, to Harry W. and Ella L. Barr Delauder. She married Harold Parks in Saltillo. She was a graduate of Marion Harding High School and a member of the Magnolia Travelers Chapter of the Good Sam Camping Club in Mississippi. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her life as a homemaker was all about family, including her three dogs, Mindy, Gidget and Buffy.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home in Marion, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Grand Prairie Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Parks; a son, Robert A. Parks of Booneville; a daughter, Cathy S. (David) Hunter of Meeker, Ohio; two brothers, Donald D. (Judy) Delauder of Morral, Ohio, and David A. (Barbara) Delauder of Marion, Ohio; two sisters, Barbara Jean Cochran of Marengo, Ohio, and Virginia Ann (Les) Korodi of South Carolina; five grandchildren, Nicole Hunter, Kristina Vermillion, Shawn Hunter, Robert Parks and Ashley Parks; and four great-grandchildren.

HOULKA - Mamie Lee "Kat" Pearson, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at her residence in Houlka. She was the daughter of the late John Quincy Bean and Tilda Mosley. She was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church in Houlka, where she was church secretary and a former choir member. She loved cooking and baby sitting.

Pearson of Indianapolis, Ind., Willie Bob (Reenovera) Pearson, Clinton (Linda) Pearson and Jessie Lee (Romona) Pearson, all of Houlka; one brother, Dutch Bean of Dayton, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Lorene Below of Houlka; one brother-in-law, Joe Lee (Vonda) Pearson of West Memphis, Ark.; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

AMORY - Emma Adine "Ms. Emma" "Deanna" Mitchell, 73, died on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Born on March 30, 1937, in Lamar County, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Marlin and Millie Rae Carrouth Flynn. Mrs. Mitchell lived in Lamar County and attended Sulligent schools before moving to Kenosha, Wis., at age 16. She worked at Warwix and Anchor Hocking Glass in Zion and Waukegan, Ill. In 1971, she moved to Amory. Known as a hard-working and sweet lady, she made friends easily. A widow since 1980, she was a devoted mother who was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church at Gattman. She enjoyed traveling and loved to go riding in her car. She loved the Smoky Mountains and often wanted to live there, and she enjoyed visiting Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Jackie Pate and Rev. Harvey Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Wofford Cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Dewayne) Basham of Hatley; sons, Joe (Janet) Mitchell of Gattman and Larry (Renee) Mitchell of Amory; sister, Ann (Dave) Anthony of Galesville, Wis.; half brother, Gene Flynn of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Humphries and Katie Mitchell, both of Cleveland, Tenn., and Gertha Davis of Red Bay, Ala.; brothers-in-law, Johnny Davis of Red Bay and Rev. Harvey Mitchell of Cleveland, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nine nieces and eight nephews; and special friends, Joy and Bob Sweeney, Amory.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Mitchell, in 1980; sister-in-law, Raynell Flynn; brother, Billy Russell Flynn; brother-in-law, Charles Humphries; granddaughter, Brandie Maschell Basham; and niece, Barbara Brown.

MABEN - Mildred Freeman Shurlds died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 11, 1923, to J.P. "Pete" Freeman and Ruby Harpole Freeman. Mrs. Shurlds was a longtime teacher in the public schools of Mississippi. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University with certification in social studies, English and communications.
