RIPLEY - An investigation triggered by the discovery of a body found Saturday afternoon near Hell Creek Wildlife Management Area in Blue Mountain is ongoing, Tippah authorities said Monday.

The body of an unidentified white male, about 5'9" to 6' tall, 185-200 lbs. and believed to be between the ages of 55-65 was found by hunters Saturday near the Union County line. The cause of death hasn‘t been determined, but the subject appeared to have been severely beaten.

Monday morning, authorities said no identification was found on the body. The subject had brown/silver hair, a tattoo with the letters BWF on his right bicep, and what is believed to be an open-heart surgery scar on his chest. No rings or other jewelry were found.

Tippah County dispatchers received a 911 call at 12:24 p.m. from a person who found the body lying off in a wooded area near CR 833 in southwest Tippah County. Union and Tippah County Sheriff Departments responded to the scene until the body was determined to be in Tippah County.

The body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Pearl for autopsy. Authorities hope to have autopsy results by the end of the week.

No arrests have been made. The investigation is being worked by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Tippah County Sheriff's Department. Anyone with information should contact the Tippah County Sheriff's Department at 837-9336, and ask to speak with Investigator Jason Willis.
