Mayor Jack Reed Jr., president of Reed's, and the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association on Monday announced that this year's theme will be the "Sounds of the Season."
The parade will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in downtown Tupelo.
The grand marshals will be the music teachers and students from Tupelo and Lee County schools. Last year, the Boy Scouts were the grand marshals.
"We had so much fun having the youth involved" last year, Reed said ini explaining the choice of this year's marshals.
As the sponsor for the downtown Christmas parade, Reed's picks the grand marshal for the event.
"We just really want to support music and the arts in Tupelo," said Lucia Randle, marketing director of Reed's.
Students and teachers from Saltillo, Church Street and Carver elementary schools were at the event inside the department store and sang a Christmas carol after the announcement.
Reed also said the music theme should make it easy for people to come up with ideas for floats.
"Christmas music is the best music," he said. "I love Christmas music. ... In July, I played a Christmas CD on my way to work."
