The holiday will visit again soon as the focus of a "Shop Oxford" campaign featuring some of the city's best retail offerings and Christmas events.
Hosted by the Oxford Convention and Visitors Bureau and event planner Fete of Oxford, the Oxford Holiday Market will boast more than 40 vendors, including regional artists and craftsmen along with such retailers as Neilson's, Oxford Kids Co., Oxford Floral and Treehouse Toys.
Jewelry, clothing, home accessories and Christmas decorations will be on display for sale, and the marketplace will feature photos with Santa, a gift-wrapping station and on-site monogramming. Admission is $5 at the door.
On the same day, the convention and visitors bureau will hold guided tours of Oxford on the Double Decker Bus at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. University Museum will be hosting a family folk art day.
"There are so many fun things to do in Oxford around Christmas time," said Mary-Kathryn Millner, Oxford CVB's director of tourism. "We hope people from around the region will plan a weekend getaway, or maybe just a day trip to take advantage of the charm and quality of Oxford's shopping as they prepare for the holidays."
Some of the other exciting holiday activities include the Downtown Council Open House on Nov. 26, The Holiday Art Market Dec. 3-5, the annual Oxford Christmas Parade on Dec. 6 and Santa's workshop day at the University Museum on Dec. 11.
"Shop Oxford" is an outreach by the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce both to locals and to visitors to remind them of the variety of merchants the city offers. One of its main features will be a list of holiday gift ideas for under $50. The list will be featured in local media and on www.oxfordms.com beginning Dec. 2.
