Callon posts 3Q profit

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — Callon Petroleum Co. posted a third-quarter profit as the independent energy producer continued expanding its onshore operations.

For the three months ending Sept. 30, Natchez-based Callon earned $1.6 million, or 5 cents per share, on revenue of $20.5 million. In the year-ago third quarter, Callon lost $955,000, or 4 cents per share, on revenue of $21.3 million.

Over the past year, Callon has been expanding to the Haynesville Shale natural gas play in Louisiana, as well as the Permian Basin of Texas.
