TUPELO – Minutes before the doors opened for the CDF regional job fair at 10 a.m. at the Tupelo Furniture Market, hundreds of hopeful job applicants had crammed into the foyer of Building V, with scores of others waiting to get in.

By 3 p.m. – the midpoint of the event – some 2,000 people had come through.

With Northeast Mississippi staring at 10.1 percent unemployment, it was little surprise that the turnout was so large.

Applicants from far and wide came to see nearly three dozen companies that included Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi, Auto Parts Manufacturing Mississippi, Toyota Boshoku, North Mississippi Medical Center, Ashley Furniture HomeStore and Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.

The job fair will have extended hours, lasting from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
